Slide Sets 1955-1962; 1955-1960

This series comprises approximately 676 color slides used in nine slide set programs. The Board of Deaconess Work of the United Lutheran Church in America produced these programs for use by congregations and other groups interested in learning about different aspects of the ULCA deaconess motherhouses. Several of the sets are undated, but others date from 1955-1960, 1962. At least one set is pre-1952, but the exact year is unknown. The slide set comprises numbered slides and a corresponding script with a user guide. Sets were loaned out to congregations and other groups by mail and returned in the same fashion. Subject matter explored in these programs include the Christmas season at the Philadelphia Motherhouse, the school for church workers and later parish workers, the Associates in Deaconess Service (AIDS) program, and general overviews of diaconate work in the ULCA motherhouses. For the nine sets found in this series, six titles are represented. Of those six titles, three have two complete sets kept for preservation purposes. For the remaining sets, an additional set was not available. The series is arranged alphabetically by title of the slide set. In addition to the slide sets, there are two slide boxes with slides pertaining to the Associates in Deaconess Service program. These slides are dated 1962.
